“ Well
done is better than well said” -- Ben Franklin.
Of Course one must start any breeding program
with the best foundation stock available. We have chosen outstanding
animals on both the sire
and dam side. To demonstrate
the athleticism of our horses and show how the combination of superior
temperament and conformation contribute to performance, we have
chosen performance
in open competition. This also allows us to evaluate
the success of our breeding program under relatively well controlled
conditions.
Open competition in eventing clearly demonstrates
the well roundedness of the Irish Draught. We agree with the opinion
that ability in the Olympic disciplines is a heritable trait
and
that good conformation is essential, facilitating performance
and soundness. Additionally, temperament contributes significantly
to performance. Combining temperament with conformation and athletic
ability increases the odds of producing a winner.
It is apparent that the purebred Irish Draught
has been shortchanged as to its reputation for reaching its competitive
potential because of breeding numbers, economics, trends and politics.
We are certain that the purebred Irish Draught is much more than
just a foundation for the famous
Irish Draught Sport horses such as, Custom Made, Giltedge,
Eagle Lion, Star Bright, Cruising, Cagney, Hopes are High, Clover
Leaf,
etc. etc.- The Irish Draught Sport Horse (TB x ID cross) is number
one in the world in eventing for many years as established by the
World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses. The purebred, properly
bred and trained, can compete with the IDSH in all the Olympic
disciplines and at all venues. Our breeding goals are to consistently
create such an animal for our own pleasure and for others to appreciate.
