Argument for Performance in Open Competition
|
- Open competition in showjumping is purely an objective measure.
The other Olympic disciplines are somewhat less so, but still
less subjective than performance testing.
|
- “Performance testing is the result of one or more judges,
subject to extraneous pressures, following arbitrary guidelines
in a non-uniform and artificially controlled environment”.
That said, with its limitations, it is the only other means
of stallion/mare assessment available.
|
- In addition to proving breeding principles and the intrinsic
value of the breed, open competition provides a comparison between
the Irish Draughts and other breeds open to the general equine
public.
|
- Regardless of breeding herd size, the ID must compete athletically
and economically with the Warmblood and this should start in
the show ring.
