Corrcullen's first official evaluation was by Brendon Furlong DVM and Official vet for US Equestrian Olympic Team at the IDHSNA Inspection in 1999. Brendon is an Irishman and horse breeder and at the time was the veterinarian for Team Davidson where he saw Cully again. He was very impressed with Cully in terms of his quality in addition to his soundness.
Professional trainer and riders have always admired his athletic ability, manageability and ridability. After being started in February of 2000, he attended the VA Horse Trials and placed 8th of 35 in the Novice Horse Division. Since then, training mostly done by by the Ferenchek family, with professional assistance from Bruce and Buck Davidson, Kevin Babington of the Irish National Show Jumping Team, and Carol Kozlowski.
In 2001 he competed in two recognized horse Trials at training level with Bruce Davidson. Bruce remarked that Cully was "(A) Talented jumper, honest, brave and brings you to the jumps." When he was competing at Millbrook in 2001, he came in fifth. Cully was ridden by Diann Roffe Steinrotter, and Diann commented after the event that Cully "(has) Great ridability, good movement and wonderful temperament."
Still later in 2001 he spent some time with Kevin Babington at his farm in Pennsylvania. Kevin, who is very familiar with Irish horses had this to say about Cully - "Great jumping technique, light off the ground and a good mind."
In 2002 he was competed very successfully in eventing and dressage by Carol Kozlowski, and she remarked that she was very impressed with his athleticism and his temperament.
Corrcullen, called Cully around the farm, was imported from Ireland as a two-year-old after an exhaustive search for a colt that would meet our breeding goals and be consistent with our breeding philosophy. Corrcullen, 17 hands with 9.5" of bone, has an undeniable presence, is conformationally correct, has three wonderful gaits and excellent jumping technique. His temperament is pleasing, and he is a gentleman in every way. Corrcullen has more "Quality" as the Irish would say, and appears more refined than many of the traditional Irish Draught stallions. This is apparent, but without any loss of bone or joint size which is so desirable in the breed. Throughout his riding career Corrcullen proved his athletic prowess in the eventing disciplines as well as in the field, where he showed that he was an outstanding field hunter. Corrcullen was sound when he retired and became a breeding stallion.
His offspring are able to be registered with Irish Draught Society of North America, as well as American Warmblood Society, where he is registered as an Elite Stallion. Corrcullen is EVA negative as of 2008, and updated EVA status will be available in Spring 2010.
Corrcullen's pedigree is impeccable and includes Creggan Emperor, Holycross, and most notably, Ben Purple.
On the dam line is Grey Macha and Pride of Shaunlara, both producers of prize winning stock in Ireland and England. His dam is Irish Horse Board Premium Retention mare, Esker Breague.
Corrcullen is an outstanding outcross to the King of Diamonds and Clover Hill lines.
